Installation Guide

Follow the guide below to install Qwickly into your Blackboard instance.

  1. Download a valid copy of Qwickly.
  2. Upload the Blackboard Building Block™ into your instance of Blackboard Learn™ using the System Admin tab > Building Blocks > Installed Tools. Click the Upload Building Blocks button and choose the building block you downloaded from this site. Make the Building Block Available.
  3. Configure Qwickly: visit the System Admin tab, find the Tools and Utilities section and locate Qwickly Settings. Select the tools you want to include, adjust other settings, and click submit. You MUST configure the tool before using it. If you are upgrading the tool, you must still go in to Qwickly settings after installation and SAVE the settings, even if nothing has changed.

To Deploy as a Module:

  • Set Module Settings: Qwickly installs a module into Blackboard Learn™. Locate the module by going to Tabs and Modules > Modules and locate Qwickly. Edit the properties of Qwickly: UNCHECK the 'Allow Asynchronous Loading' box and submit.
  • Deploy the Qwickly Module as you would any other module on your Home tab (or any other tab you wish). We recommend deploying Qwickly in the top left position of your home tab.

To Deploy as a Tool in the Blackboard Tool Panel:

  • Add Qwickly to your Tool Panel: Qwickly installs a tool into Blackboard Learn™. Add the tool to the Tool Panel by going to Tabs and Modules > Tool Panel and click the Add Tool button. Give the Tool a Title and Select Qwickly from the tool select menu.

To Enable Qwickly Cloud Link Mashup Tool (Qwickly+ Only):

  • Visit System Admin Tab and select Tools under the Tools and Utilities section. Scroll down to Qwickly and make sure the Qwickly Cloud Link VTBE Mashup is turned on, and available as a Course Tool and Department Tool.

To Configure Qwickly Attendance:

The Qwickly platform must be installed to use Qwickly Attendance; follow the steps above.

  1. In order to use 'Qwickly Attendance' as a course tool, it must be made available. This may be done system wide or per course. To do it per course, go to Customization > Tool Availability and find 'Qwickly Take Attendance,' click the Available checkbox and save.
  2. Once 'Qwickly Attendance' has been made available, you may place it in the 'Course Menu' by clicking the + in the upper left and then selecting 'Tool Link.' You may name the tool whatever you would like, but the 'Type' must be 'Qwickly Attendance.' If you would like to use the 'Student Check In' functionality then 'Available to Users' must be checked. Qwickly Attendance will also show up under the 'Class Tools' section of a course as well.
  3. 'Qwickly Attendance' should now be available in the 'Course Menu' with the name you provided, click on the link to be taken to the setup screen. If instead you see a screen that says 'Qwickly Attendance' has not been purchased, try saving the 'Qwickly Settings' again, and if that does not solve the issue, contact our support.
  4. Set up 'Qwickly Attendance' in the course using the settings screen and begin using 'Qwickly Attendance'

Please Note: Please make sure that you do not have the tool named 'Qwickly Take Attendance' enabled. This is a legacy version of the tool and will no longer be supported after version 3.6.x .

To Uninstall Qwickly:

Follow the guide below to UNINSTALL Qwickly into your Blackboard instance.

  1. Go to Blackboard System Admin Tab
  2. Click "Building Blocks" > "Installed Tools"
  3. Locate the Qwickly. Click the arrow next to the name of the building block and choose "Uninstall".

  • Qwickly Jot (Assignments): Qwickly Jot Assignments are now included as a Beta in 3.8 with a Gold Master coming in version 4.0. Qwickly Jot Assignments allow instructors to create assignments that students can write on using a touch screen and stylus, or a mouse/trackpad.
  • Qwickly Attendance: When adding a comment to a record in the record screen that did not have a comment before, the comment icon now appears on the record when saving the comment.

The following changes have been made for version 3.6.7:

New Features:

  • Qwickly Attendance: Card Reader mode now has an "automatic lookup" mode which will attempt to match student ID cards to student records in Blackboard without the need for use of the configuration tool.  This is especially useful when cards have variable length data encoded on the card.
  • Qwickly Attendance: System Admins can now edit the default email copy for the Absent Email.
  • Qwickly Attendance: There are now drop-down menus for inputting attendance time when taking attendance.
  • Qwickly Attendance: Improved the efficiency of generating full attendance export and full export now includes students who are disabled in the course.
  • Qwickly Attendance: Added the variable {-absences-} for emails triggered when a student is absent to show the total number of absences the student has accumulated in the course.

  • Qwickly Attendance: When splitting course enrollments by groups or child courses, the option for Points Per Session is now completely hidden in the settings menu, since it can not be used.

The following changes have been made for version 3.5.1:

  • Qwickly Plus Cloud: Links to documents stored in OneDrive are now viewable without viewers having to log in, improving ease of use.
  • Qwickly Attendance: Instructors can now choose to show disabled and unavailable students in the attendance record. These students will still be hidden from the taken attendance screen and always receive and excused for any dates attendance is taken while they are not active in the course.

  • Qwickly Attendance: Enhancements to gradebook syncing.  Attendance record syncs to grade center when attendance records are edited, deleted, or when the settings for how grades should be calculated changes.
  • Qwickly Attendance: The attendance record now shows an indicator if there is a comment for a record.
  • Qwickly Attendance: Users will receive a warning if they attempt to take attendance more than once in a minute (attendance can only be taken once per minute).

  • Qwickly Plus: Resolves an issue in which setting a start/end date for announcement would create an announcement with the date of Nov 1, 1970.

PLEASE NOTE - Qwickly 3.4 includes a brand new version of Qwickly Attendance which preserves the old version as well. The new version is called Qwickly Attendance and the old version is called Qwickly Take Attendance.  We strongly recommend turning off Qwickly Take Attendance if you've never deployed it to faculty to avoid confusion. The old version was left in to preserve compatibilty during a transition period, but future releases will remove Qwickly Take Attendance Completely.  Please move forward using Qwickly Attendance when possible.  For more support on which tool to deploy see Qwickly Attendance Support.

Version 3.2 - 3.9.2016

  • Resolves an issue where certain "special characters" would make posted announcements show up with blank announcement bodies.
  • Announcement that are entered as multi-line announcements will now show up correctly.

  • Course Availability tool: System admins can elect to deploy  the Course Availability tool in place of Make Course Available.  Course Availability allows instructors to toggle their courses from Unavailable to Available and back to Unavailable at anytime.
